A very successful morning so far...

So we've been doing REALLY great with eating now (I posted about it yesterday or the day before on an existing thread). She still is only eating MAYBE a cup and a half a day - understandable, as a full days is supposed to be about 1.75 to 2.5 cups - for an average dog. Ember is below average on activity (to be worked on), so I expect less intake. In all, I've been very happy with it this week.

Our temperature has finally started dropping to high 80s low 90s, and our mornings are finally low 80s again - so much more comfortable. So today I doubled our morning walk from 5-10 minutes to about 15 minutes and took Ember to a new area. It was more sniffing than walking, but we both enjoyed it. I had made up my mind before leaving that today we would try a nightly feeding instead of twice a day, since she missed one breakfast already this week (but ate the full amount for the day that night anyway).

So I get inside and start feeding the cat, expecting Ember to divert to the couch and flop down like she always does.

I hear this lip smacking sound behind me, and turn to see just half of Ember's face peaking around the corner into the kitchen at me. I asked her if she was hungry and she wagged at me, then backed up and sat expectantly.

So she got a half a cup for breakfast Tongue And then she ate it all.

I never thought I'd see the day that this dog would actually ASK for breakfast! I've decided that breakfast will be half a cup IF she wants it, but the bulk of her food allotment will happen at dinner. She's going through her "dinner play time" in less than 5 minutes, and that's all the work she gets besides during our walks, so I'm wanting to extend it some.

And now she is my working partner... Apparently Lambchop makes a great after-workout pillow!

Oh! Yesterday, we were "working" (really, playing) with Ember's dinner. She only tolerated that for about a minute before she plopped down in front of me, looked at the bowl holding the whole portion, looked back at me, and snorted. I handed the bowl over and she ate it right there - even licking the bottom of the bowl (it was a mix of dry kibble and the wet-food-covered-kibble-treats).

And this is what I went to bed with last night... (she still gets up and leaves when I lay down, but she will "put me to bed" at least!)

ETA: I forgot to mention - Ember is sleeping much better! As in, she's not kicking/crying/barking in her sleep NEARLY as much as she was!

She is looking so much more relaxed!!

BTW, I have rarely had a dog that ate what the food manufacturer recommended. I think they over estimate feeding amounts on purpose, for 2 reasons. 1.)You might be more pleased with your food choice if it takes less of it than you expect to maintain your dog. 2.)If you do feed the amount they recommend, you will buy a LOT more of their food over the life of your dog.
Gotta love 'em.

She has changed so much this week! Tonight I got stopped (yet again) by someone wanting to talk about her and her glow collar, and she sat at my feet and watched these kittens run around, got up and inspected the bush, came back and sat down, walked off a few paces and laid out. Never once drooled and barely glanced over her shoulder!

It's amazing what making one change has done. I can't wait to see what else comes of this.
