Bad Bones!
#1
I saw this on Facebook and though it was kinda funny. I never have bought "rawhide" chews and now I never will. I'm sure this is already known but I thought the video was cute. How Rawhide Chew Toys Are Made

Also I did a little research (must admit not too much) and found that sometimes they use the skins of dogs killed in Thailand for the chews. And yes, they are imported to the US. 4320

OK Dilwyn loves these but I will be looking for an alternative now! He has stopped eating bone- teeth and mouth checked all fine. So what do I give him to keep his teeth in good nick. He does have Whimzees which are vegetable based and are not that tough chewing. Suggestions please??!!! Grin

IMO raw meaty bones are the best thing ever to keep a dogs teeth clean. But just for chewing pleasure my dogs also get bully sticks and hooves.

Yes, I saw in the Netherlands a kind of the same little documentary, of how it was made, and I was shocked. Body never liked the rawhide, in staid of that I gave her a neck of lamb, or things like that.
For her it seemed to me a good alternative, and she still likes it, also when the bone is a little bit older.

Glad this has helped you, jaceyd. I've always seen them at pet stores and thought 'huh, that looks interesting. But doesn't look too natural or healthy.' Never knew where they came from though. Glad I do now.

Never been a fan of rawhide and I have seen this article before. Good on you LB for continuing to spread the word, even if only one person realises how nasty they are it is a good thing. My boys love their bones but they also get dehydrated pigs and cows ears. I have a friend who is against the ears saying the dogs can't digest them however I have not found this to be true. Due to Max's rock eating I do a pretty close examination of poo to see what he is getting into and I have never found undigested ears LOL

Yeah, I agree. If someone benefits from sharing this it's definitely worth while. And I bet you're a poo expert Trifan! Poop_Emoji_42x42 So much for not digesting pig ears.

Jaceyd, those are much better than rawhide! Thumbsup
