Moving is hard. Mentally.

Moving on Monday. Came down with full blown head cold / sore throat last night. Guess what I'm not doing for the first half of this day. Urg. But okay some downtime is good, right? Tongue

Hang in there, This too like all things will pass. A good hot toddy of honey lemon mint tea with a shot of whisky will help

That's always when I come down with colds. I suppose the stress is lowering my immune system, or something. Take care of yourself.
Gotta love 'em.

The first step of our journey is complete. I've made it to the interim apartment, but there are a few issues. Parent's house isn't complete so they can't move out yet, meaning there's a lot of living beings in this tiny little apartment including my parent's cat who my cat doesn't like. So I only have 1 room and a bathroom blocked off from the rest of the house, and I can only live out of about 3 boxes I came with because of space. It is a little depressing.

And my mother is trying so hard to make it all work, even undid all her own packing in this one room so I could have something of a living space. Which makes this even harder, because I want everyone comfortable and happy, but everyone is having to make sacrifices.

Thank heavens this is only temporary but it is going to be a very, very long month.

And there haven't been any new rental listings in three weeks for this area.

Oh dear, I really can empathise. We have had our 42 year old son living with us for 10 weeks now after a misfortune in circumstances. Funny thing about parents is that they have this innate need to care for and prioritise their children needs even when they are driving us up the wall. I am quite sue your mum will not be feeling as inconvenienced as you think she might be.
Hmm, 3 boxes of stuff, you can do it, it's only 4 weeks. It might make you realise how much stuff you actually really don't need to function well and be happy.
Our son has been away for 10 days now in search of work and I must admit it has been good to not find him asleep on the lounge when I get up each morning at 4am. I thought sending kids to bed after falling asleep on the lounge stopped when they were teenagers, NOPE.
A favourite moto in our house is, "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger".
When he does move out I'll probably be glad to see him go but I will feel very satisfied that I was able to help when needed. I am sure your parents will feel the same.

Erg good perspective thank you! Of course you are right. There are no complaints from them at all. I just try to help out wherever I can to help compensate.

Took ember to their new fenced in yard while we moved a load of their boxes over. After about half an hour of watching us work, I was able to get ember chasing her tennis ball, and she even returned it to me 3 times! Just more confirmation that this girl just really needs her own yard Smile

Happy you made it there safely. It's too bad your parents house isn't ready for them yet. Enjoy the time you have together, it might go by much more quickly than you think.

Glad you got there OK. The next stage will be over before you know it. It sounds like Ember is adjusting well to the chaos.
Gotta love 'em.

I'm gonna try to get a video of her playing ball. We'll see how it goes. I can't film it myself because camera in my hand makes her slow way down.

But I did get some pictures of her lounging around.

Oh, and finally chewing on appropriate things - and not my remotes.

Today was a little bit different and definitely harder. I was late getting started as I had some errands to run, and my parents were supposed to be already at their house for a little early day work and pool time after for the holiday. But when I got there with Ember, they weren't there - they were running around Lowes (home improvement for those who may not know). Now, the area is completely locked up, and it's already over 90 F outside, so thankfully Lowes is one of those places that allows dogs.

Also thankfully, this means that most people running around the place, as well as the employees, are so used to dogs coming and going that they don't bother even looking at them. This made for a pretty decent exposure for Ember. Granted, she wasn't thrilled at all with the idea - but I couldn't let her overheat just so she didn't have to get close to people.

Next time I'll try to have some treats on hand. But if anything did come of it, it was this - I noticed and then tested out a theory - she is beyond flinching away from people completely! She doesn't want to interact, but the conflicted curiosity is gone now (almost completely). This means she is much more deliberate in her communication, and when people leave her alone, she can walk down walkways without even glancing at them (meaning no worry unless they speak to or reach for her).

And then her day "got even better", bless her heart...

She got her first outdoor kiddie-pool bath. It was out of desperation, but the temperature and weather was perfect for it. That didn't help her want it any more though, so it was still rough, and she was completely done with life for about two hours afterward.

So I allowed this, and she instantly perked up.

But all was made up for at the end of the day.

Aww, she seems so happy and contented and she sure is having some great adventures. It must warm your heart to see how she is embracing life and giving things a go. That yard looks beautiful, I bet she loves it. Haha Lowes is a menswear chain here in Aus.
