Hives ?!? Help
#1
I’m really hoping someone can help me. My one year old baby Gunner woke up very early and very itchy. He had a couple small dots around his eye and now they are spreading. My vet cannot get me until tomorrow but recommend a Benadryl for now (1mg for every pound) he is 45 pounds but gave him 25mg to make sure he reacts okay. Here are some pictures ? I’m thinking it may have been the new fertilizer they put in outback grass! Any I do would Help

I hope you already gave the other benadryl. You can repeat it every 4-6 hours as needed. It will make him sleepy. Too big a dose will make him vomit. If you haven't already, go ahead and give him a bath, just in case it was something he came in contact with.
Gotta love 'em.

Aww, poor baby !! It could be anything really. Maybe an environmental allergy or reaction such as you suggest with fertiliser, or could be grasses and pollens. It might also be something like Mange Mites, I have seen it look very much like this. Don't freak out, it's no reflection on your care for the dog. The mites exist in the environment and take hold when a dogs immune system is weak. This weakness can be due to malnourishment and poor care but in pups and the elderly the immune system naturally goes through more vulnerable periods.
I have had a pup develop this and it only involved a skin scraping to confirm the presence of mites under the microscope and then simple treatment.
Either way, I hope she is all better soon.

So I gave him a bath and sprayed Burt’s bees soothing dog spray and it totally helped for a couple of hours and he now has another hive so close to his eye. I never saw mites when washing him read they look like “black pepper flakes” my heart breaks for him .

No, you can't actually see Mange Mites without a microscope on a skin scraping. The way you describe a "hive" doesn't sound like it anyway.

Okay thank you. I’ll update everyone tomorrow with hopefully some good news. I want nothing more to just make them go away.
