pit bull terrier

I must have put my view across wrong here! Haha... I LOVE LOVE LOVE pit bulls! & I don't think the breed is the problem I think the sort of people (around here) who own them are the problem. I didn't realise it was a Pit Bull till I got in the car to go home, because I was to busy going "OMG CUTE PUPPY" in my head haha Tongue then I thought, hmmm that was that guy.. & that was deffo a pit bull!

Also I have no idea how they are available over here, some people breed them I guess... And the penalty is to have your dog taken away and euthanised! Maybe a jail sentence or a fine. Unless you can prove the dog is not a threat to society, then the dog must be muzzled and put on a lead when out. But nobody will ever find out because most people don't realise they are seeing one and even if the police were to walk past it they wouldn't care unless it was being aggresive etc.

Anyways, I am going to read the rest of the comments Smile

Right, read all the comments haha, YES PUNISH THE DEED! I watched this documentary on youtube "my dog is a weapon" about how all these youths were getting dogs to use as protection. One boy, loved his rottweiler to pieces, it was well trained, came back when he told it to, did everything he said, but if he told her to attack, it would attack. But you could tell the love he had for the dog, he had nowhere to live because the council wouldn't let him move in any houses with his dog and he repeatedly told them to shove it! Now, I thought he was admirable (minus the attack dog part)! However there was some really horrible people on the documentary, a boy who had a Pit Bull terrier, who trained it to attack, by giving it a live rabbit in a public park and letting it rip it to shreds. A girl had a Staffy, and it was very aggresive and one guy even had a dog de bordeaux that he used for protection. I was like "really a dog de bordeaux?".

Anyways, those people should be fined, have their dog taken away from them and banned from owning animals. The dog should have atleast have tried to be rehabilitated, even if it hadn't worked they could have tried.

I also watched another documentary it was Panorama one (any one from the UK will have heard of this) and it was undercover in the dog fighting ring. They showed how easy it was to import a PBT into the UK by sayin it was a Boxer/Lab or a American Bull Dog/Labrador. So it's apparently not that hard to get it in the country.

And as Arizahn said, it was all down to some people getting mauled by a few dogs in the late 80s early 90s.

I am going to get that documentary and post it on here for you to watch Smile it was a total eye opener to the scum in Britain!! Lol.

Theres a few petitions actually for "don't ban the breed" and I have signed one lol Big Grin not that it will help Sad.

Anyways, I don't think I've got more to add, but if PBT weren't banned I'd totally own one to prove people that they can be lovely dogs Big Grin

Shadow was mistaken for a pit bull cross as a puppy...she is collie/whippet cross labrador.

I'm tired of dogs being stereotyped by breed. The KC should hang its collective heads in shame. The meanest dog I ever met was a Lhasa Apso, followed closely by a poodle. I've met some lovely bull terriers, and some nasty labradors. My neighbour has three lovely rottweilers. My sister has a jack russel terror - I mean terrier, no actually I meant terror, lol!
It's down to how the dogs are bred (temperament/health of their specific parents), and how they are raised (breeders/owner's). In other words, if you have a bad dog there is a worse human somewhere in its history.

The KC? Tis the government!!

Sadly too many people breed for money. and SBT and type are the 'in' dog.

Generally people do not have APBTs over here - they have SBT x's and call them Pits.

Today's "i" newspaper- a spin off from the Independent- is talking about the 6 year old girl who had her ear bitten off by a PB over the weekend. It reports that there are more PBs on the street since the knee-jerk law of 1991.....so few are reported, and only if there's been a serious wounding- which, as we know, can happen with any ill-treated dog.
At the same time it reports an increase from 3,377 dog attacks in 2001 to 6005 in 2011.
More irresponsible owners, most likely.

I feel for the owners who get there staffy's taken away, because the police think they are pit bulls, some of the dogs that are taken away don't even look like putbulls, it's a joke!, and there are loads of staffy's in rescue know too, my cousin has a staffy, her dog is great with kids and other dogs, her ex boyfriend used to do drugs, wonder why he is an ex, and had all sorts of people in her house, but the dog still turns out lovely, i can remember her dog sitting on my lap when i was younger, it did not move the whole time i was there!.

I prefer to blame the KC since they allegedly know about dogs but do nothing with regards to actual welfare issues such as people breeding for popularity, etc. If the KC actually started educating the public about dogs, I'd admire them more.
I've given up completely on politicians as they are all idiots...the government can't be relied upon to draft sensible legislation regarding dogs. They just do what the tabloids shout loudestSad

There is actually quite a lot of people who DO have pit bulls, and pretend they are crosses to get away with it. The ones ive seen are deffo pit bulls Sad watch that documentary it really shows you how many there are!
SBT are only "in" with the sorta folk you expect them to be the "in" dog. Not trying to be ehm stereotypical, but it's usually council estate, benefits type people... well in scotland anyway!

Was it not a Bull Terrier, as in English Bull Terrier... read it in the metro lol. I was like an English Bull Terriers are so friendly wtf! So maybe it was a Pit!

But yes, I believe it is more irresponsible dog owners... I mean a Labrador can be a killer if not trained properly or trained to fight. Don't ban the breeeed!! Sad

Have you ever done the APBT test? It is 20 pictures of different dogs and you have to choose the PItt....I have never known anyone get it right first time.

Boxer x SBTs, Lab x SBTs, some SBTs various bull breeds and crosses. They all have the APBT look.
